On July 3, 1944, the town of Portet experienced tragic events: the attack, by the German army, on the village, held by 160 resistance fighters from the Carnot maquis. A memory room displays documents, photos and objects that bear witness to this tragedy. Two stelae pay tribute to the many victims. Since that day, every year on July 3, a commemorative ceremony of great solemnity has been held.
