This short walk offers an incredible panorama of the Pyrenees. Ideal for a late afternoon stroll, the light in the wood shines through the foliage and floods the facade of the castle. The walk is also rocked by the rustling of the leaves, the toc-toc of the green woodpecker and the song of the swift thumb.

Itinerary
  • Step 1 :

The start sign is opposite the Chai of Arricau-Bordes. From the car park, walk up the road towards the Chai. Continue along the edge of the road and take the first path on the right. A magnificent view of the Pyrenees awaits you! The track descends and as it bends sharply to the left, follow a path to the right. It winds gently through the forest and joins a track.
  • Step 2 :

Turn right and walk up this alley. When you reach the road, turn right. The castle and its vineyard are at their best. Continue until you reach the entrance to the château.
Don't miss
  • Wild orchids (Nature site)

Observe the wild orchids of the Vic-Bilh, below the Château, from mid-April to the end of June.

  • Castle of Arricau-Bordes (Heritage)

Built on a motte, this castle of medieval origin appears to be the oldest seigneury in the Vic-Bilh. In the 13th century, it was a seigniorial keep. In the 16th century, the Renaissance-style Saint-Jacques wing was built on the right, along with the octagonal tower and dovecote. In the 18th century, the Saint-Michel wing on the left was built with outbuildings. In the 19th century, a square tower and a wall linking the two wings were added to the château, forming the central courtyard known as the Guards' Courtyard. In 1967, the castle was completely restored, then listed as a Historic Monument.
