Caubios-Loos : chemin de Sainte-Quitterie

The two communes of Caubios and Loos have been united since 1842. In the 12th century, Caubios would have meant a "bald spot", cleared of trees. Loos indicates a "place of abundant pasture". The church at Caubios dates from 1776, and is dominated by a disproportionately large bell tower, probably once a castle tower. A feudal enclosure with an upstream rampart surrounds the church and the Loos cemetery.
Itinerary
  • Step 1 :

Start at Caubios-Loos, at the intersection of the RD 208 and RD 216, at the car park of the picnic area (near the community centre). Turn right onto the tarmac road for 250 m, then turn left uphill towards the village of Caubios (Chemin de Moundé). At the first intersection (white cross), turn left onto the tarmac road which descends slightly. Before climbing back up towards Caubios church, turn right onto a dirt track just before the stream.Translated with DeepL.com (free version)
  • Step 2 :

Turn left onto the tarmac road between the two houses. At the next junction, turn right onto the tarmac road for about 100 metres, then left onto a dirt track that slopes slightly downwards. Stay on the dirt track, then turn right onto a tarmac road to reach the Loos neighbourhood.
  • Step 3 :

Turn right, then right again (do not take the dead-end road) onto the tarmac road that descends. Continue along this road until you reach point 3.
  • Step 4 :

Turn left onto the tarmac road lined with thuja trees.
  • Step 5 :

150 metres before the junction with the RD 208, take a path through the woods that descends to the bottom of the valley. Cross the stream, pass under the high-voltage power line and climb back up to point 5.
  • Step 6 :

Turn right onto the tarmac road (Chemin de Plaisance) and continue towards the RD 40.
  • Step 7 :

Before reaching the RD 40, turn right towards the Ste Quitterie chapel, staying on the path parallel to the district road. Cross the stream and climb back up the dirt track.
  • Step 8 :

Under the high-voltage power line, turn right onto the tarmac road for 50 metres, then turn left onto a grassy path. At the entrance to the woods, take the path on the right. Stay on the path as it descends to join a dirt track at the bottom of the valley.
  • Step 9 :

At the crossroads, turn right. Stay on the main path through the woods. Near elevation 212, leave the path that continues straight ahead: turn left and cross the stream via a wooden bridge. 50 metres further on, turn right and cross a second stream via a bridge. The path then climbs quite steeply for 150 metres.
  • Step 10 :

At the first junction (track coming from the left), turn right onto this track and stay on the main path. View of Sauvagnon church. Opposite the hamlet of Lavigne (farm buildings in front of you), take the track that branches off to the right. Stay on this track until the next junction, then turn left to join the RD 216. Take the RD 216 (to the right) and follow it back to the starting point.
