The tour takes you through the heart of the palombières on a ridge path. You'll hike through a built heritage rich in history! And you'll enjoy magnificent panoramic views over the Soubestre and the Pyrenees, as well as the authentic Béarn village of Morlanne!
Itinerary
  • Step 1 :

    Start from the church car park. Take the street on the right, parallel to the RD 946 and falling back onto it (at the calvary).
  • Step 2 :

    Quickly after crossing the D946, take the tarmac path on your left over the ridge to the picnic area.
  • Step 3 :

    From the picnic area, you'll have a superb view of the medieval village of Morlanne. On your right, take the dirt track down to Tisné, which serves as the route for the famous Soubestre hill rally.
  • Step 4 :

    When you reach a tarmac track, turn right and then left at the ascent via Chapelle de Moustrou.
  • Step 5 :

    Below the chapel, descend to your left and take the small bridge over the stream. We're heading for Arget church.
  • Step 6 :

    Continue on the RD 264 to the heights of Arget.
  • Step 7 :

    Before a rise at the junction on the right, the BIS itinerary is suggested: by turning right, a loop of almost 2 km will take you through a valley bordering the Landes. Alternatively, continue on the main road and at the next junction, turn left for 300m.
  • Step 8 :

    Leave the road on your left and head for "Les Capères", overlooking Morlanne.
  • Step 9 :

    At the junction with the tarmac road, turn left and go down to the small stream. Go back up towards the fountain and the Morlanne church.

    Built in 1373, this polygonal fortress with its brick keep bears witness to the defensive network put in place by Gaston III of Foix-Béarn, known as Fébus. Enclosure, sentry walk monumental gateway, moat... all bear witness to the military architecture of the 14th century. Discover the new areas open to visitors, including exhibition rooms and the keep. Gardens, panoramic views, picnic facilities. Listed as a Historic Monument.

    The chapel is part of a fortified complex dating from the late 15th or early 16th century. 16th century and was probably the successor to a castle chapel. Inside: funerary slabs of the Barons of Moustrou (1675 to 1715).

    The church of Saint Laurent of Morlanne (attested as early as the 10th century). The oldest parts date back to the 13th century, such as the massive bell tower to the west. Rich 18th-century furnishings. Gaston Fébus carried out so-called defensive works in the 14th century. During the Wars of Religion, the building became a temple, before being returned to Catholic worship under Louis XIII.

    Church of Notre-Dame. 12th-century church in Arget and its discoid funerary stele in the cemetery (13th or 19th century). This building probably stands on a former motte castrale.

    Dating from the 15th century, it has 2 square storeys and an attic floor served by a circular stair tower. The building housed a flour mill in the 20th century and is now home to a media library.
