Then follow the path opposite, which runs alongside the road on the left. After the bridge, cross the road and take the path that quickly branches off to the right and leads to a footbridge and the Sauvagnon waterfall.Step 4 :
Cross the RD 289 and continue along a path on the left-hand side of the road. After 100 m, leave the road on the left, cross a small footbridge and you will reach a small tarmac road. Turn right and stay on this road until it comes to an earth embankment. Cross it using the passageway provided for bicycles. Cross a small bridge and continue straight ahead. 200 m after crossing the Luy de Béarn, turn left (Chemin Hourrègue). You will reach the RD 834. After going around a house.Step 5 :
Turn left onto the road, then quickly right, once again following the Luy along a paved path. After passing a barrier and a short climb, cross another road. Turn left, then right to rejoin the paved path along the river. It ends at a track at the foot of the flood control dam.Step 6 :
Turn right. After 400 metres, the track ends. Continue straight ahead, under an oak tree, along a path running alongside the field. After a double bend and crossing a stream, the path continues between two fields until it reaches the entrance to Bastard Forest. Cross a culvert and a wooden chicane.Step 7 :
Turn immediately left onto the forest path. You will reach the tarmac road, which you now follow straight ahead for 1 km to reach the forest exit and the Zénith car park.
- Sauvagnon Waterfall (Nature site)
The Sauvagnon waterfall, as you can see, is not natural. It was created to enable a mill to operate. Between the 19th and early 20th centuries, there were many mills in the region. In Sauvagnon, there were three mills: two on the Luy de Béarn (the Sauvagnon mill, which operated until 1960, and the Buret mill) and one on the Gées river (the Biegue mill). All equipped with three pairs of millstones and flying wheels, they were used to produce flour. The Sauvagnon mill was the most powerful, with 7 horsepower.
View of the Pyrénées (Panorama)
The readers' passage well (Heritage)There are several wells scattered throughout Sauvagnon. These were neighbourhood wells or private wells that became public and were incorporated into the urban landscape thanks to the work of craftsmen. This one has been given a beautiful roof made of warm-coloured tiles, similar to those on the houses in the village. Manufactured locally, these flat tiles, known as ‘picons’ in Béarn, had a small hook, called a ‘picot’, designed to hook them onto the wooden battens.
