Step 1 :
BRUMONT RESIDENCE Currently a presbytery and residence. This large residence, comprising three buildings arranged in a U-shape with a central pavilion, belonged to the De Brumont-Disse family, lords of Conchez, the family's village of origin. Jean de Brumont, a doctor born in this house, contributed to the revival of thermalism in the 18th century. The De Brumont family donated part of this property to the municipality in 1832 to be used as a presbytery. Inside, there are 18th-century wood panelling, carved fireplaces and stuccoed hoods.Step 2 :
LAMOTHE-MAUCAU HOUSE This house once housed the Conchez apothecary's shop. It is built partly on the moats and includes a basement that was used as a storeroom.Step 3 :
DARTIGALAS-BLANDIN RESIDENCE An old residence partly built over moats, enlarged and refurbished in the second half of the 18th century on its façade. In 1769, Jacques Blandin, a royal notary, married Dame Jeanne Dartigalas, daughter of a master surgeon. Some members of this family emigrated to Spain, then to Cuba and the Americas.Step 4 :
BEULAYGUE HOUSE Acquired by Sieur Paquaa in 1676, this house later became the village inn run by Sieur Beulaygue (meaning “drinks water” in the Béarnais dialect!). In front of the inn was once a square called “Lou Prat de Brumont”.Step 5 :
Toulon House Dating back to the 16th century, this is the only remaining house from the old Renaissance village. It was built in 1517 by Arnauton de Portet, known as TOLO, which is probably where the name TOULON comes from. In 1535, it belonged to Arnauton de Portet, then to Arnauton de Lacaze. On the bas-relief on the façade bearing the arms of Béarn (two cows), the inscription reads: "In the year 1517, on the 13th of February, Bernat deu Porte aperat TOLO me fe. Bive la Baqua. HIS / A / M /." A little lower down, two figures in pleated robes hold a shield whose decorations have disappeared. Inside, a Renaissance fireplace bears the date 1517. The date 1833 on the door lintel probably corresponds to work carried out that year.Translated with DeepL.com (free version)Step 6 :
City hall TOWN HALL Current town hall, formerly a school, dating from 1887. In the centre of the façade is a bust of Marianne, and on either side, above the windows, are the mascarons of Jules Ferry on the right and a figure in officer's uniform on the left.Step 7 :
Daniel BRUS House DANIEL BRUS RESIDENCE Front section dating from 1721 D.B. Building constructed by Daniel Brus, a wealthy merchant from Conchez who died in 1742 and who undoubtedly had a large family. Built partly on the moats, this residence features an elegant wooden gallery on the east side, visible from the D 13 road. The south section was added in 1738. Inside, there is a beautiful staircase and 18th-century wood panelling.Translated with DeepL.com (free version)Step 8 :
Blandin house An old bourgeois family (lawyers, notaries, apothecaries, etc.) found in Diusse and Thèze. In 1780, Pierre Blandin, a lawyer, married Demoiselle Ursule Brus, his neighbour. In those days, people married in their own street! The Conchez school was established in this house before the school merger with the neighbouring village of Diusse.Step 9 :
Hiton house Bernard de Hiton-Conchez, comrade-in-arms of Henry IV, obtained the ennoblement of this house by letters patent in 1591. He was received into the States of Béarn under the title of Monsieur de Hiton-Conchez on 17 August 1594. The beautiful entrance door with its stone pediment dates from the 17th century. A little way from the house, a beautiful 16th-century barn can be seen from the departmental road.
Sabathier's mill (Heritage)The millers, who have inherited the business from father to daughter, will show you how a water mill works during a tour of the dam (300 metres away) that feeds the mill canal, and explain the different stages of production: from sowing their wheat to grinding it on granite millstones powered by their water mill. This cultural heritage steeped in history will allow you to relive the history from the time of the Lords to the present day.
