Itinerary
  • Step 1 :

Leave Place Marcadieu heading towards Pau, and turn left down Rue de la Vieille Côte. Watch out for traffic. Turn left at the crossroads, and leave the road 300 m further along on a footpath to the right. After a pleasant descent, continue straight ahead until you reach a road (D295). Cross the bridge and follow the mill path, then turn left towards Samsons-Lion. Follow the pleasant uphill path through the village and enjoy an exceptional view of the Pyrenees. Before the large antenna, fork right onto a dirt track. At the crossroads with the local road, go left and then straight ahead on a track. At the crow's feet, continue along the track and turn right at the crossroads just after the chicken farm. Follow this beautiful descent, which becomes steeper and requires you to be careful on the pebbles and gullies. Pass the horse farm and the bridge and climb up to the stop sign. Go straight ahead and turn right onto the Labbaye path.
  • Step 2 :

This challenging climb starts on a road and ends on a very steep path! At the top, turn left, and at the end of the track, after the avenue of oak trees, turn right. At the crossroads, follow the Chemin des Quatre vents, then turn onto the Chemin Lascampagne. After the farm, leave the path onto a farm track that descends and then rises steeply. Take a break at the top and enjoy the view of the mountains along a gorse hedge. Return to the tarmac on the right and follow the road opposite at the crossroads. Take the first gravel path on the left. At a bend to the right, leave the track for a dirt track (black gate). At the entrance to Maspie, turn right at the corner of a barn opposite the church.
  • Step 3 :

Turn left, then right-left to go up Cami de Lamarque. Take the first turning on the right, passing a large farm on the Cami de Serres. Follow the stream to the right before climbing Cami de la Seps. After the farm building, turn left onto a grassy path. You will come across electric fences with tape that you can cross using the handles provided and close again after you have gone through. At Juillacq, fork left in front of the church onto a dirt track, and a long climb leads to a pleasant plateau. Turn right onto the road, taking care to avoid traffic, to reach the water tower.
  • Step 4 :

Cross the D943 (beware of fast-moving traffic), turn right and then go straight on. At Simacourbe church, go down the hill, taking care to avoid speed and gravel. At the second crossroads after the silos, turn right onto the D543. Pass the car park of the Doléris winery and walk alongside the building to reach the old tram tracks via a meadow. After a beautiful climb through undergrowth, join Rue de la Gare and turn right in front of the pediment to reach Place Marcadieu.
