Impounded in 1996, Lac de l'Ayguelongue is mainly used for irrigation and to support low-water levels. It is a 58-hectare nature reserve of great ornithological and wetland conservation interest.
The lake is ideal for walking, fishing and picnicking (tables available on the south-west shore).
Itinerary
  • Step 1 :

Take the path at the bottom of the car park after the wooden gate. The dirt track runs alongside the reservoir.
  • Step 2 :

Observe the water birds (coots, grebes, etc.) discreetly from the observatory. Continue north on the track through a pine forest.
  • Step 3 :

Take the path on the right that climbs above the reservoir. Join a tarmac road and follow it for 100 m. Take a footpath to the right that descends along the canalised watercourse. Reach and cross the footbridge and continue along the track.
  • Step 4 :

At the 1st crossroads, turn right, go through the barrier and climb up to reach the banks of the reservoir. Continue straight ahead on the main track, passing another observatory and arriving at the RD 201. On the tarmac road, turn right and you are back at the starting point.
Don't miss
  • Fauna and flora of the lake.

  • View of the Pyrenees. (Panorama)
