There is little noise in this valley, and the lake birdlife is abundant. Take the time to observe and listen to the sounds and silence of this beautiful, timeless place.
A small variation will enable you to extend your hike by going up to the village of Angos, which has a pretty little chapel (12th century).
Step 1 :
The departure point is at the car park at Lake Balaing.Step 2 :
Turn left and take the grassy track that climbs for 400 metres. The path turns into a tarmac road at the first buildings. Continue climbing. At the junction, turn left. After 400 metres on this tarmac road, leave it and take the track on the right. Descend for 600 metres.Step 3 :
At the junction, rejoin the route around the lake by taking the track on the right. Cross a bridge and pass a car park on your left. Continue for 150 metres. Follow the lake shore and take the track that runs along the upstream dyke.Step 4 :
End of the upstream dyke. Walk along Lake Balaing for 1,000 metres before starting a gentle climb of about 300 metres. At the end of the climb, leave the track and turn left onto the dirt track that goes downhill. After 150 m, turn onto the path on the left to join the dyke, which you then follow along its entire length. At the end of the dyke, take the footbridge over the spillway.Step 5 :
When you exit the footbridge, turn left onto the tarmac road. Follow the road for 600 metres. You will arrive at the car park at the start of the walk, which is on your left.
