A break in wine country

In the morning, set off on foot or by bike in the heart of the vineyards, among hills, dirt roads and splendid views of the Pyrenees.

In the afternoon, savor the moment by the lake or in a winery, with a glass of Madiran or Pacherenc du Vic-Bilh in hand, the legacy of a winegrowing tradition initiated by Benedictines monks as early as the 11th century.

Interpretation trail

The “in the heart of the vineyard” trail is also known as the “walk Joseph Peyré”, in tribute to the writer born in Aydie in 1892, winner of numerous literary awards including the 1935 Goncourt. Meet Odet, lord of Aydie, an illustrious 15th-century figure (admiral of France, grand seneschal) and confidant of kings Charles VII and Louis XI. He guides you through the vineyards, seasons and traditions on a trail punctuated by fun panels revealing the secrets of tannat, water, the forest, local buildings… At the end of the walk, discover the fresco of the lords behind the church…

Along a vine-lined path, Lake of Aydie appears like a peaceful oasis nestled in the hills.

Surrounded by rows of vines and punctuated by groves, this water mirror reflects the soft light of sunny days.

Here, people come to stroll in silence, to breathe, to contemplate.

A few anglers wait at the water’s edge, attracted by the presence of black bass and whitefish.
